Ubud Pilates

Mind

Joseph Pilates named mind, body and spirit as his core tenants. From your first session, you will begin programming your mind to connect with your body. Over time, you will develop a new awareness of your body structure, your muscles and how they work together during movement. Most importantly, you will learn how to apply this awareness away from the studio in your day-to-day life.

Body

Pilates is a full body workout that tones, strengthens and lengthens your muscles without building bulk. Muscles that have been tight become more flexible, areas that are restricted become mobile and your posture will improve. In short, you will attain a strong, flexible and balanced body.

Spirit

To achieve a true state of mind- body connection you must be completely present, in the moment, or “mindful” for the Zen amongst us. As such, Pilates can be a form of meditation at a time when your body’s energy flow is increasing through proper alignment. It’s powerful. It elevates you.

Low impact, highly effective

“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young”
~ Joseph Pilates

  • The Pilates method provides a low impact workout that's optimally challenging and highly effective. In a single class you might find a professional footballer next to a post-natal mother, a late 30's beginner, a yoga instructor, a retiree and his seventy year old wife who's showing them all how it's done.

  • Pilates will meet you where you are at right now, where you take it is up to you.

“As a surfer hitting middle age you tend to struggle more out in the water. You just don’t have the same flexibility as you did when younger.” Read more...

Easily modified for your body

Just because you have an injury or condition, it doesn't necessarily mean you can't be active and strong in the rest of your body. Pilates is easily modified to work around problem areas so you can still get a great workout, even while you're nursing an injury or condition. This is great news for anyone who is experiencing pain in their back, wrists, neck, elbow or ankles; recovering from an operation like a hip replacement, c-section or knee surgery; living with muscular problems like incontinence, diastasis recti or sciatica. The benefits of Pilates go well beyond alleviating back pain.

When will I see results?

“After the first two sessions with Asa I already felt the benefits. After the third session, someone actually commented how much more relaxed and taller I looked!” Read more...

  • It's amazing how effective the Pilates method can be. Ubud Pilates has witnessed some truly remarkable transformations over the years but most clients report a noticeable improvement in their bodies after 4-5 sessions.

  • Having said that, if you start with a Fundamental session, you will learn how to engage your core, stabilise your shoulders and maintain a neutral spine. The improvement to posture will be immediate for most people.
